Where in the world is Tolitz?
It’s been pretty slow for me these past two days, blog-wise… That means I’m actually doing something worthwhile in real life… ain’t that a bitch? Real life is such a hassle, gets in the way of fun things…
Anyway, I took a quick peek at my tech site this morning and saw that someone started a topic asking where everyone lived. Y’know, one of those spammy topics you usually see in most message boards and forums. Then I saw people posting screenshots from Google Earth. I then just remembered installing that thingamajig a few days ago, but I haven’t actually used it yet! (I install a lotta crap on my system that I only use once or never at all).
Google Earth, for those who don’t know, is a nifty little tool that shows you satellite images of places around the world. And when I say images, I mean those top view shots you see in spy films. Not that you can actually see them moving like in those movies - you won’t suddenly see someone stripping and dancing on roofs of their houses, or a high speed chase happening in your friendly neighborhood freeways. Anyway, it’s a pretty interesting tool, so check it out for yourself and satisfy the voyeur in you…
Okay, so I thought to myself "let’s see if I can find my apartment from here." I type out my address, and the thing slowly and dramatically moves, pans and zooms into the city I am in… and lands on the totally wrong place! (no wonder my friends couldn’t find me). Well, it was pretty close, landing on the building "behind" my apartment… I better contact the landlord of that area if he received any guests for me…
Here’s a general shot from way up (click to blow it up… the image, I mean):
And here’s a shot, extreme close-up … I labelled the important landmarks, of course (click to blow it up… yes, the image, not the apartment):
Yeah, I know, I only labelled the places where you can get food or drink… no wonder I’m often overweight :(
I tried to do a search for our old house in the Philippines, but it seems that the satellite didn’t think locales in the Philippines were important enough… All I see when I do a close-up of Metro Manila was a smudgy, speckled conglomeration of white and grey things that either looked like buildings or huge masses of siopao left out to dry… Well, I guess the satellite can’t penetrate the pollution, huh? Yeah, that must be it..
Anyway, Google Earth is pretty interesting and freaky at the same time. Very nice stalker tool, for sure. So all proespective stalkers who would like to hunt me down, just exercise some caution, especially the women… the last stalker to hunt me down almost got herself pregnant, so beware!
(well, not really, but I had to say something to scare ya, right?)
